LIVE LIKE A LOCAL Curator at The Marylebone and one of London’s hugely knowledgeable, LONDON GUIDE JANICE LIVERSEIDGE ON MARYLEBONE everything from whisky and candles to woodwind instruments and wedding dresses.

accredited ‘Blue Badge’ guides, Janice Liverseidge has lived and worked in Marylebone for over 25 years. Following a career in publishing and journalism, she fell in love with the area, and took an apartment on Chiltern Street where she lives to this day. Janice is an enthusiastic champion of Marylebone’s village-y feel and numerous independent local businesses. Guests can join Janice on our Blue Badge Walking Tour of Marylebone every Friday, starting in 108 Bar at 9.45am then moving on to uncover the secrets hidden in the area’s maze of side streets – home to a wealth of history, as well as some of London’s most beautiful architecture. Here’s a taster of Janice’s Marylebone… Marylebone has a rich history – any good facts? The novelist Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was also a doctor based in the area – the reason why so many of his Sherlock Holmes novels are set here. In fact everyone’s favourite detective was nearly murdered right next to The Marylebone Hotel! What’s your favourite street in the neighbourhood? It has to be Chiltern Street. It’s got a lovely collection of quirky and independent stores selling

What are your ‘go-to’ shops in Marylebone? I adore reading and travelling, so Daunt Books on Marylebone High Street is a must visit. There’s a fantastic array of food shops such as La Fromagerie and The Ginger Pig butchers on Moxon Street, and FishWorks, which has the best fishcakes in town. Totally Swedish is excellent for food and traditional knick-knacks, and I also love Titania’s Garden florists in Crawford Street. Where would you send a family for the day? Regent’s Park is beautiful throughout the seasons – I especially like the Open Air Theatre in summer. The Wallace Collection is a draw for its armour. And the neighbourhood features many vintage cars, so if we have children on a tour we hand out car-spotting sheets and look for classic Porsches, Aston Martins, Bentleys, Chevrolets and Ferraris. Have you spotted any celebrities in the area? Now that would be telling! But here’s a tip – Waitrose on Marylebone High Street is very good for this. I used to see Madonna there, and I’ve spotted Kate Moss and Stephen Fry heading into Chiltern Firehouse.
