Slice of the City - Issue 6

They say Christmas isn’t a season, it’s a feeling – but we say the only time we all remember to stop and feel the love, the comfort and the joy is upon the arrival of the festive season. Regardless of semantics, it’s everybody’s favourite time of year and we’re celebrating by sharing festive tips – what to do and see, where to shop and where to find the truly magical in every one of our locations. We’re also celebrating the launch of our mystical new cocktail menu at The Bloomsbury Club, sharing our pick of classic food pairings and spending 24 festive hours in Marylebone.

A FESTIVE TEA Afternoon Tea at The Westbury has a ring to it; a tower of heavenly bites enjoyed in the elegant gallery, with crisp linens, bandbox-striped bone china cups, silver teapots, crystal champagne flutes and the tinkling of ivories in the background. A Dublin Institution, for the festive season we pull out every stop with our delightful Christmas Afternoon Tea. Our festive tea tower starts, naturally, with delicious savoury sandwiches, bite-sized brioches and bakes. The upper tiers feature mini mince pies, pistachio, raspberry and Caramelia chocolate opera cake, choux pastries brimming with gianduja pastry cream and mascarpone Chantilly and festive verrines featuring whipped ruby chocolate ganache and raspberry gel. A jewel-like red box is rich in dark chocolate mousse and our Christmas snowman crafted from white choc and coconut.

THE CROKE PARK

GSTAAD comes to The Bloomsbury as Dalloway Terrace partners with the Swiss Tourism Board in an evocative Alpine makeover. Guests and visitors to the heated terrace can enjoy the transformation nestled in sheepskin blankets, hugging a hot water bottle and savouring the special food and drink menu inspired by the region, with tastes and aromas to transport you to the foothills of the Swiss Alps in an instant.

SPACE IN THE CITY Rare in London is a room spacious enough for as many as 320 guests, but Lutyen’s original lofty YMCA dining room, for many years known as the George V Hall at The Bloomsbury has been spectacularly refurbished. Inspired by the travels of King George himself, wallpaper features limpid lakes fringed with tropical botanicals and creatures from around the world – surreally wrapping every bit of the space; walls, ceiling, and pillars. Illuminations come courtesy of nature by day (the space is flooded with natural light) and by night it sparkles with the light from our spectacular hand-blown Waterford crystal chandeliers.
